Zenana

Boutique Hotel Zenana is 90 minutes away from Bolzano, one of the major cities of the region of Trentino-Alto Adige, and right in the historic centre of San Candido, whose many colourful shops attract both tourists and residents of the Alta Val Pusteria alike. This beautiful town enjoys the most spectacular of settings, situated as it is at the edge of the Three Peaks Nature Park, framed by the Alta Val Pusteria in the north.  The Three Peaks and the other mountains of the Dolomites have been given Unesco World Heritage status in recognition of their exceptional natural beauty; the landscape, dotted with lakes and guarded by majestic peaks, puts on a different show as the seasons change.  There are many routes to explore by mountain bike, attractions and activities for the family, and incredible slopes for the ski enthusiast, with the skiing resort of Sesto/Sexten only 5 km away, while the Haunold cable car is a mere 5 minutes’ drive.

Boutique Hotel Zenana, in the pedestrian area,  blends well with the traditional properties of the old town centre of San Candido: built in the 18th century, it is a handsome house with a sloping roof, pale grey facade and wooden balcony.  In 1753 a tailor worked and lived here, and in 1829 it became the workshop of a glovemaker, at a time when San Candido was thriving from the development of the leather craft; in 1859 the building came into its own as a Viennese café with rooms to let, one of the most famous of the area.  The present owners have created a wonderfully warm, cheering place; a delicious breakfast is served in the elegant dining room, but if required their guests can enjoy the luxury of room service, while tea, coffee and snacks are freely available at all times, as is Wi-Fi.

Even though the Boutique Hotel Zenana’s building could not be more typical of the Alpine region, its nine guest rooms are far from being traditionally furnished.  There is no pale wood furniture in fact, but bright colours, Eastern and Western designs that create interiors which are quite different from those of the other local hotels.  The view from the rooms is breathtaking as the mountains are visible in all their glory; they have wooden floors, and each one possesses a charming decorative feature, like a sloping ceiling or a four-poster wrought iron bed.
