Tenuta Monticelli, set in the countryside outside the town of Alezio, is only 3 km away from Gallipoli, whose old town still preserves the fortifications of an ancient castle and the magnificent Cathedral of Saint Agatha. This is the area of Apulia known as the Salento; Gallipoli is located by the Ionian Sea but the Adriatic is not distant either. Along the coast, some of the most beautiful beaches and lidos of the whole region are within easy reach: Punta della Suina, Baia di Punta Pizzo, Marina di Mancaversa, Torre Suda, Torre San Giovanni and Pescoluse, to name a few.
Tenuta Monticelli is surrounded by 6 hectares of rural greenery and centuries-old olive groves, 450 magnificent trees of a renowned species that is native to Apulia. In the 19th century a farmhouse stood high above the countryside, but in time it became abandoned and turned into a ruin. However, thanks to the employment of local building techniques, it has been possible to recreate its vaulted ceilings in tuff, the stone typical of the Salento, the fireplaces and the underground granaries that once stored wheat. Today guests are welcomed to a two-storey villa whose lines are clean and simple; it has light colours and bright comfortable rooms. Outside one can relax in the inviting infinity pool, or reading under the beautiful pergolas, made of wood with a decapé finish, from where to watch the spectacle of sunsets and of the sea visible on the horizon, to the accompaniment of crickets and cicadas.
Tenuta Monticelli is a holiday farm whose products are all naturally grown. Its olive oil is organically certified, and during the summer season organic fruit and vegetables are produced especially for the visitors, who enjoy them for breakfast and are also invited to evening gatherings to sample the early produce. At Tenuta Monticelli everything bears witness to a profound respect for nature and the environment.
There are 5 large rooms: 3 are on the ground floor of Tenuta Monticelli and have their own garden space, while the other 2 are on the 1st floor and have access to panoramic terraces, the most extensive of which is a stunning 80 m² and comes equipped with a jacuzzi pool. The walls are bright white against the pearl grey of door and window frames, and the wrought iron bedsteads and four poster beds, together with the furniture made by a local artisan, all stand out for their quality and design.
