If you choose a Masseria (Manor farm), you love and respect nature and you are looking for a close contact with it, but with the warm and cozy setting and comforts of a countryside hotel.
The Masseria term stands for a farm that is often fortified and well known in the South of Italy and in particular in Puglia and Sicily. Until a few decades ago, it was a big inhabited farm business, often, by the landowners, but the big rural construction also included the farmers accommodations, only seasonal in some areas, the stables, the forage and harvest warehouses.
The Masseria was born between the XVI and XVIII centuries, when Spain, asking for cereals, granted the license of repopulation of large uncultivated and abandoned lands to the nobles of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, who founded real villages near the original constructions.
Since a few years, many of these historical Manor farms have been renovated to create farmhouses and Bed & breakfast, also to reach the important objective to maintain the protection of these historical monuments.
Behind every Charminly Masseria, there’s also a story, people who, at a certain point of their life, decided to leave their job, sometimes profitable but very stressful, to change their life and dedicate to hospitality with passion and love or entrepreneurs dedicated to farming who also discover the vocation for hospitality.
In both the cases, you will be welcomed by owners who will open their doors to make you feel home, will tell you their story and will share the flavors and secrets of their land with you.
We also remind you that the accommodation offer is very large in Italy. The structures that we propose and that we have personally selected one by one for you, often aren’t included in the rigid and defined categories of this sector, but they’re the totally personal interpretation of one or more of them. For this reason, you may often find a structure included in more than one category.
