FESTA DEL FUNGO PRUGNOLO
In May in Montieri there is the Prugnolo Mushroom Festival. You can enjoy this specialty in many recipes from appetizers to pasta. The festival lasts two days and also provides hiking paths or horseback routes to discover the areas where these delicious mushrooms grow.
BLUETRUSCO
In May in Murlo there’s the Bluetrusco. This event aims to promote the Etruscan origins of the village, thanks to the archaeological excavations of Poggio Civitate. They organize exhibitions, tastings and music inspired by the culture and style of Etruscan life.
SAGRA DE CIACCINO
At the end of July in Ciciano you can take part to the Ciaccino Festival. The ciaccino is a typical rustic focaccia cooked in a wood oven, seasoned with olive oil. Perfect to be enjoyed in its simplicity, or enriched with a thousand ingredients for stuffing, from potatoes to cured meats, to tomato.
TORNEO DI PALLA EH
At the end of July in Ciciano theres the Torneo di Palla Eh. An ancient game that has originated in greek – Roman times, also called ball 21. The ball has the size of a tennis ball with the lead center and a leather covering. The teams are made of five players and the scores are similar to those of the tennis even if the rules are unique in the world. There are no real playgrounds, playing with bare hands on the road, where is bordered the field with strips. The tournament attracts many teams of the district of Siena and Grosseto, where this game is very followed and practiced, but occasionally also draws teams from other regions.
MONTERIGGIONI DI TORRI SI CORONA
In July in Monteriggioni there’s the reenactment of Monteriggioni di Torri si Corona. This impressive event recreates the medieval traditions with costumes, parades and banquets, there’s a different theme every year, such as Dante’s era, for which they organize events related to the occasion. There are many games, shows and typical dishes to entertain locals and tourists and the whole town is immersed in an atmosphere of another era.
SAGRA DELLA CASTAGNA
In October in Montieri you can take part to the Chestnut Festival. In autumn there is nothing better than enjoying the excellent chestnuts, roasted or used in schiacce and chestnut cakes. The festival is repeated in December, when they use the dried chestnuts and flour for many other delicacies.
FESTA DELLA CINTA SENESE
In November in Sovicille there’s the Festival of Cinta Senese. The Cinta Senese is a particular breed of pig which produces excellent cured meats and of course lots of delicious meat cuts. You can enjoy the Cinta with the recipes prepared in restaurant with steaks on the grill or in the sauce with pici.
