Masseria La Tofala is situated in the Salento area of Puglia, a region whose ancient history was punctuated by the arrival and settlement of numerous peoples. Located on the outskirts of Copertino, a historic town of great interest, and also close to Leverano, both of which are only 5 minutes away, Masseria La Tofala enjoys a privileged position, equidistant from the architectural treasures of Lecce, a veritable Baroque jewel, and the natural beauty of the beach of Porto Cesareo and Porto Selvaggio National Park. The stretch of Ionian coast between the natural harbour of Porto Cesareo and Porto Selvaggio, with its lush hinterland, is splendidly varied and incredibly beautiful: cliffs are interspersed with coves and dunes; lagoons with fine golden sands face a series of small islands, the largest of which is fittingly called Isola Grande, or Rabbit Island. For those with a passion for diving and snorkelling, the subtropical creatures and plants of the sea and sea bed in this area, will be a wonderful surprise. And from Porto Selvaggio the old town of Gallipoli, another unmissable attraction, is circa 30 minutes away.
Masseria La Tofala dates back to the 16th century. Its low buildings have been lovingly restored by the owners, who have invested care and effort in the enhancement of all the farm structures and the preservation of their exposed stone walls, terraced roofs and traditional ceilings decorated with starred and barrel vaults. Surrounding the farmhouse are groves of centennial olive and citrus trees, which are typical elements of the Salento landscape; but more exotic plants, such as palms and succulents, are also at home here and thrive in the climate of this area. This is a true oasis of peace and tranquillity: a beautiful pool is set amidst the trees, and sun lounges and umbrellas are dotted all around it; moreover, there is also a library on the premises of Masseria La Tofala, and a play area has been designed for the enjoyment of its younger guests.
The five guest rooms of Masseria La Tofala have been created from the spacious buildings that were at the heart of farm life: the olive press room, the stables and the barn where the hay was stored. They are ample and bright, overlooking the courtyard and provided with private access; their décor is different, but they have all been attractively designed for comfort and convenience: soft colours and wood beams provide a backdrop to the simple lines of the furniture and to lovely old objects, chance finds picked up by the owners who love scouring little markets and salvage yards.
Lovers of relaxation can discover the magnificent wellness center and SPA, built in one of the ancient cavities of the Masseria. You can regenerate yourself with a bath in the heated pool, Finnish sauna, Turkish bath, emotional shower with chrome and aromatherapy, Himalayan salt wall, wellness tank with hydromassage. Possibility of massages. There is also a corner for tea and herbal teas. All for an unforgettable stay in Copertino, in Salento.
