Trevignano Romano is situated in Roma district, in Lazio. It is situated on the foot of the Sabatini mountains, and overlooks the Bracciano Lake, it is included in the Regional Natural Park of Bracciano Martigiano.
Among the religious buildings that are located in Trevignano Romano there is the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption. Right on the old town centre, the church dates back to 500 and was built on an earlier Gothic building. The frescoes on the apse depicting the Assumption of the Virgin in raffaelliano style have great value.
Near the Church there’s the Trevignano Castle. It is located on a hill dominating the town and the lake, it was built in the thirteenth century by Pope Innocent III. It was severely damaged by the wars in 500 but is possible to visit the ruins. From the hill you get an excellent panoramic view of the town below and Bracciano Lake.
In the Town Hall there’s the Civic Museum which houses numerous archaeological remains found in the necropolis near the town. Bronze and gold objects have been found in the tombs dating back to the sixth century B.C., along with decorated amphorae and fibulae.
On Bracciano Lake you can practice various water sports such as sailing, canoeing, windsurfing and diving. You can also follow routes on foot or by bicycle to admire the natural beauty along the lakeshore.
