Imperia, administrative centre, is situated in the Riviera di Ponente, in Liguria.
Its recent born in the 20s, sees the union of two villages: Oneglia and Porto Maurizio, separated by the creek called Impero, which gave the name to the new town.
Among the most beautiful places in Imperia there’s the Cathedral of St. Maurice and Companion Martyrs, it is the most important church in Liguria, built in neoclassical style with two twin towers that are 36 meters high, placed next the facade with three rows of Doric, Ionic and Corinthian columns. Since 1980, its 14 rooms show documents, log books, photographs, uniforms and nautical charts dating back to the ‘700 and the following years. Many models of ships and vessels, and again sounding, chronometers and compasses. Many objects granted by the Navy and others that come from private collections. All to begin a fascinating journey through Italian and international naval history.
