Baone is situated in Veneto, in Padua district. There are several villages linked to Baone, such as Calaone, Rivaldomo and Valle San Giorgio.
These small villages, located between the hills in the Regional Park of Colli Euganei, are surrounded by farms and vineyards producing excellent DOC wines, organic honey, extra virgin olive oil and peas. The traditional productions of this area now offer gourmet products of excellence that can be enjoyed with traditional recipes.
Among Baone, Calaone and Valle San Giorgio you can visit the remains of villas and castles built in the eleventh century. The proximity to Este made these places the perfect home for the Estensi and a proverbial refuge, as the monastery on Mount Gemola for Beata Beatrice d’Este, today Villa Beatrice d’Este. Castle Calaone instead housed the court of the Estensi during the wars and before the final transfer to Ferrara
Many fortifications are located on Mount Cero, on the Mount of Baone and Mount Buso, until the thirteenth century, reflecting the importance of these places that still maintain an old town centre in medieval style.
In the following centuries, many noble families from Padua and Venice chose Baone and the surrounding villages to establish their residence, with beautiful villas and prestigious buildings, such as Ca ‘Venier, on the square in Baone, Ca’ Orologio, in the old town centre too. Villa Mantua Benavides with its beautiful gardens, and Ca’ Barbaro are both located in the hamlet of Valle San Giorgio.
