In March, Modica hosts a colorful show of rare flowers and plants. During the MODICA FLOWER SHOW exhibition-market, held in the historical center of the city, visitors and insiders will be surrounded by a great botanical garden. HOLY WEEK
The Holy Week in Ispica, start from Palm Sunday and ends on Easter Sunday. During the week, the confraternities of the city organize sacred representations of the episodes of the life of Christ, the Way of the Cross and the crucifixion. The week is full of shows, where religious rites merge with the folklore and the traditions of the Sicilian city, giving visitors a festive and passionate atmosphere.
SAINT GEORGE FEAST
In April, in Modica, you can attend to the SAINT GEORGE FEAST. The patron of the city is celebrated every year on the first weekend after April 23rd. An important part of the procession of the Saint is the pace of the simulacrum, carried on the shoulders by the “Sangiorgiani”, that alternates a simple walk to a run.
INFIORATA
In May in Noto, do not miss the colorful INFIORATA. Founded in 1980 and now at its 39th edition, the Infiorata event offers a show full of colors and scents. Thanks to the work of flower artists who are busy a whole night to turn via Nicolaci in a mosaic of flowers, the Infiorata has become one of the most beautiful performances on the island.
MADONNA DELLE MILIZIE
In May, in Scicli, they celebrate with a theatrical representation in the square, the feast of the MADONNA DELLE MILIZIE or Madonna on horseback. Enriched by the procession of the statue of the Madonna and the pilgrimage to the Convent, the celebration includes also an interesting craft fair.
FESTA DEL CARMINE
In July, in Ispica, they celebrate the Festa del Carmine (Our lady of the carmine). Established in 1251 by the Catholic Church, the feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel is celebrated both during the week in which the religious rites are held, and the following week. The impressive procession with the statue of the Virgin moves through a path to visit the main Churches and Basilicas of the town.
FESTA DEL GELSOMINO
In July, in Ispica you can participate in the FESTA DEL GELSOMINO (Jasmine festival). This event full of joy with songs and dances that in the ’60s animated the harvest of jasmines, is now a tradition. These events are inspired by “I Sentieri del Gelsomino”: urban trekking animated by art, culture, history, music and theater.
FISH FEAST
In August, in Pozzallo, you will discover the flavor of the sea with the FISH FEAST. Singing performances, shows and folklore are the setting for one of the most awaited food and wine events of Pozzallo. The festival opens with the traditional frying of over 5 tons of fish and continues for 9 days in which skilled chefs cook the fish that will be served to tourists and inhabitants.
