Masseria Serralta

S.C. 86 Contrada Serralta 39, , , Rooms: 5 / Opening dates: Mid March – 5 November from € 99 - to € 159

Masseria Serralta sits nestled in the picturesque landscape of the Itria Valley in the region of Apulia, located as it is in the countryside surrounding the town of Locorotondo, with its traditional little white houses surmounted by roofs of dry stones arranged in ever decreasing rows.  Also a mere 10 minutes away are Alberobello, a UNESCO world heritage site, and the Baroque architectural treasures of Martina Franca; the Adriatic coast, on the other hand, and in particular Torre Canne, at the tip of the Dune Costiere Regional Park, is only a half-hour drive away.

Masseria Serralta, in Locorotondo, is perched on one of the highest peaks on the Murgia Plateau.  In 2005 Apulia Regional Office of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities listed the cluster of trulli of which Masseria Serralta dwellings are part as a cultural heritage site.  These trulli date back to the end of the 17th century but their architectural structure is perfectly preserved; there is even a tower with a traditional pitched roof, or “pignon”, that has been restored by the skilled stone artisans of the Itria Valley, and is currently occupied by the owners.  Dry stone walls, typical of the area, run around the boundary of the property and cut lines among the surrounding olive groves, enclosing the panoramic pool, a “lamia”, that is a space covered by vaults, a summerhouse and the lawn, all within easy access from the guests’ suites.

Masseria Serralta is immersed in the surrounding countryside; it offers the unique chance to experience life in one of its four traditional trulli that have been converted into suites and named after the women of the family who lived there for generations.  The thick-walled rooms are spacious and have been tastefully furnished blending modern and traditional decor; the communal areas are also perfect to ensure wellbeing and relaxation.
