Balestro del Girifalco – Massa Marittima
In Massa Marittima twice a year, there is one of the most famous historical re-enactments of all Tuscany: the Balestro del Girifalco.
It is a two-day event during which you can watch the challenge between the crossbowmen, the show of flag-wavers and the parade in historical costume.
The challenge between the crossbowmen is really evocative, during which 24 of the most skilled archers who will have to hit the “corniolo ” or “tasso” will compete: a wooden target placed 36 meters away, positioned on a larger wooden panel decorated with the figure of a girifalco.
The winner will be awarded a golden arrow, while his company will be given a silk cloth.

Un calice e un violino -Sassetta
In Sassetta in August you can take part in the event ” Un Calice, un Violino” (A Chalice, a Violin): it is a itinerant dinner that takes place along the streets of the old town, until late at night and where tables are set up for dinner that are divided according to the course which will alternate with various sommeliers who will guide you to discover the wines of the village.
The evening is then animated with live music while the craftsmen show the ancient trades of Sassetta. It is a itinerant dinner through the historic streets of the village of Sassetta.
Serate in Medievale -Suvereto
In Suvereto in July are held evenings “in the Middle Ages”. For the occasion, the whole city brings back to life the medieval spirit of the past, decorating the city as it was used in ancient times and creating a medieval banquet inside the cloister of San Francesco with tables arranged like a horseshoe.
Along the streets you can also attend the parade with costumes of the time and touring shows.
The banquet in particular, is divided according to an ancient ceremonial with a menu that is divided by “services”: you start with the belief, followed by the cuisine, and then the desserts, everything sprinkled with wine “de lo contado” of Suvereto.
Dinner will be served by waiters in costume and an auctioneer who will illustrate the dishes and you can start eating after washing your hands with water and rose petals.
